JON SCHWARTZ, ’79, nanospectra biosciences

Jon Schwartz (Will Rice ’79) is originally from Greenville, Texas. He earned his BSEE in 1979, MEE in 1980, and a Ph.D. from the UT Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences 2001.

Currently, Dr. Schwartz is the Director of Clinical Research for Nanospectra Biosciences, Inc. in Houston. In this capacity he is responsible for developing the laser delivery methods for Nanospectra’s AuroLase® Therapy, overseeing the evolution of the AuroLase Laser Delivery Device through the FDA approval process, while wrangling lab mice and high-maintenance urologists.

Previously Dr. Schwartz has worked at: Litton Resources Systems (optical data telemetry), Bio  Quantum Technologies, Inc. (CO2 laser tissue welding), Apollo Lasers, Inc. (industrial Nd:YAG lasers), California Institute of Technology/Jet Propulsion Laboratory (deep space laser communication), and UT/MD Anderson Cancer Center (tissue optical properties and photodynamic therapy).

Having finally learned how to keep a steady job, he has been with Nanospectra since 2005. He, his wife Nell, and a rotating cast of Blue Heelers reside in Sugar Land
