Aris Papasakellariou, ’96, Samsung electronics

Aris Papasakellariou received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Rice University in 1996 where he worked with Professor Behnaam Aazhang. He is currently a Vice President of Samsung Electronics. For the last 15 years, he worked on 3GPP standardization as the technical lead for Samsung in the PHY layer specifications (3GPP/RAN1) where he designed many of the most fundamental functionalities of LTE/4G and NR/5G. He received the 3GPP excellence award in 2017 and the global Gold patent award of Samsung Electronics in 2018. He is the editor of TS 38.213 (NR;Physical layer procedures for control) that is one of the core specification documents for 5G. He is the primary author of over 250 granted US patents several of which were successfully used in ITC and global litigations.
